Beef bulgogi (or Korean beef barbecue) is a tasty new dish for your family to try. Right now, we have a Korean exchange student living in our home who brought along some delicious bulgogi marinade– so I attempted making beef bulgogi for dinner. It was enjoyed by all my children– and our Korean student said it turned out very similar to what he eats in Korea. I’m definitely no expert in Korean cooking, but since it turned out so well, I decided to share the recipe (made the easy way):
Ingredients:
2 pounds of beef
Beef Bulgogi marinade (can be purchased at Korean / international grocery store, or online)
1 onion cut up
sesame oil
Directions:
1. Cut up beef into thin slices like bacon. (Easy tip– you can purchase it already cut this thin at a Korean or international grocery store. Ask for thin strips of beef to make bulgogi). As it was, I just bought some steak and cut it up myself. If you’re cutting it up yourself, put the meat in the freezer for 30-45 minutes first, to make it easier to cut.
2. Add the beef to the marinade (see on Marinade jar how much to put in for 2 pounds of beef– I used about half the jar) and put it in gallon sized plastic bag to marinate. I marinated the beef for several hours. If you want to make your own marinade, a well-rated recipe is available on Allrecipes.
3. Cut up onion.
4. Pour sesame oil into pan. Sautee onion for a few minutes. Add beef and cook until brown. I drained the oil/grease off the beef before serving. I served with rice.
Be sure to post in the comments if you make Bulgogi or if you make your own marinade.
