Ready to get your home in excellent shape, using everyday, natural items you already own? To conclude our 2-part series on budget friendly housekeeping, here are the final 5 tips:
6) Polishing Silverware or Silver Jewelry. Forget about purchasing expensive jewelry cleaners. Make your silverware (or sterling silver jewelry) shine with toothpaste. Simply scrub with toothpaste and rinse!
7) Disinfecting Smelly Shoes. Ever come in from exercising, take your shoes off at the door, and notice an odor? Sprinkle the inside of your shoes (or gym bag) with baking soda to eliminate the smell.
8) Oven Cleaning. No one enjoys cleaning the inside of an oven, but you can make the task easier with some baking soda and water. Mix baking soda with some water to form a paste, and use it as an abrasive to clean the carbon deposits in your oven. You can sprinkle some white vinegar to assist with the tougher cleaning. As an added bonus, your oven will not smell like cleaning chemicals when you are finished.
9) Cleaning the Microwave. Put a bowl of water in the microwave and add some lemon peels, slices or juice. Turn microwave on for 10 minutes; when done let bowl of water/lemon sit inside microwave for 3-4 minutes more. After that, simply wipe away all the dirt and grease from the inside of your microwave.
10) Cleaning the Coffee Maker. Use a mixture of white vinegar and water to clean the inside of your coffee maker. Put the solution in the water compartment and run it through as if you are making coffee. This will clean the coffee remains or any other residue. Then run the machine a couple more times with just plain water.
